Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I find my tire size?

You can find your tire size on the sidewall of your tire. You can also find it in your owner’s manual or on your driver’s side door sticker.

  • What does each number and letter on my tire size represent?

Most vehicles have a tire size similar to /65R17 89H. The “P” is the tire type. The “255” represents the tire width. The “65” is the tiP225re’s aspect ratio in percentage form; it’s the height of the sidewall measured from the wheel rim to the top of the tread, expressed as a percentage of the tire width. The “R” stands for the construction type. The “17” is the wheel diameter. The “89” is the load index, and the “H” is the speed rating.

  • What is the difference between an all-season tire, winter tire, and all-weather tire?

Each type of tire is designed to perform in different weather conditions. All-season tires perform best in temperatures above 7°C. Their rubber will not wear in high temperatures and their sipes are designed to provide traction in wet weather. Winter tires perform best in temperatures below 7°C. Their rubber stays pliable in cold temperatures and their deep sipes keep snow from decreasing your traction. All-weather tires are built for both cold and warm climates, but their sipes may not detract the snow as well as winter tires and their tread could wear down faster in warm temperatures compared to all-season tires.

  • How do I know if my tires need to be replaced?

First, check your tread depth. If your tires are measuring 2/32” or less, then you need to replace your tires. You can also use a toonie to check your tread depth. When you place the toonie in the tread of your tires, if your tread only reaches part way into the letters, then it’s time for new tires. Secondly, remember that tires expire. If you look at your tire’s sidewall, you will see a DOT number. The first two numbers represent the week it was manufactured, and the second two numbers represent the year. When the tire reaches 6 – 10 years old, it’s important to have them inspected and verified that they are still safe to drive on.

  • Can my flat tire be repaired?

We can inspect your tire to determine if the leak is repairable or if the tire needs to be replaced. If the puncture is too large, then a plug and patch may not fix the leak. If a flat tire has been driven on for too long or has sat for too long, we may not be able to repair it. If the puncture is too close to the sidewall, it may not be possible to repair it.

  • How often should I have my wheels aligned?

You should have your wheel alignment checked once a year. After the check, we will determine if an alignment is required.

  • How often should I rotate my tires?

You should get your tires rotated once every 10,000km or as recommended by your owner’s manual.
